A day after offering a reminder of his abilities on social media, LeBron James backed it up with a season-high 37 points as the Los Angeles Lakers overcame the Houston Rockets 105-104 on Sunday.
On his evening off on Saturday, James shared a graphic to his Instagram story showing that Friday’s 35-point haul against the Portland Trail Blazers was the 108th time he had topped 30 points since leaving the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2018.
Referring to criticism he received when making the move to Los Angeles, James wrote: “I just came here to make movies though! Ain’t that what ya’ll said right!?!?”
James then produced more heroics on Sunday as he finished with 37 points, six rebounds and eight assists, leading the Lakers to back-to-back victories.
Asked why he had felt the need to get something off his chest, James said: “Because sometimes you need to remind folks.

“They’ve been joking about me, saying that I lay the ball up too much when I’ve got an open lane. So I’m trying to change that narrative too.”
James, whose 40 minutes on court on Sunday was his highest figure of the season if excluding overtime, is into his 21st season in the NBA but isn’t setting any targets when it comes to drawing the curtain on his incredible career.
In fact, having struggled with a foot issue throughout the 2022-23 season, James now believes he is back to his best.

“I’m just trying to push the limit,” he said. “See how far I can take this thing. I don’t know. I mean, it’s me versus Father Time.
“I have been able to be on the court a lot more during off days this year because of past injuries the last couple years with my foot or whatever the case may be.
“So to be able to hone in on everything that I need to do instead of having to get off my foot, unless we’re playing games, has allowed me to stay in rhythm.
“I got my bounce back, my spring back, my quick twitch back and things of that nature.”
