Tyson versus Paul will be an exhibition fight

Jake Paul

Mike Tyson has confirmed his upcoming bout against Jake Paul will be classed as an exhibition but warned his opponent not to expect an easy night.

The fight, which will not count as part of either boxer’s professional record, will take place in Arlington on July 20 and will be shown live on Netflix.

It had not been announced as to what rules the fight would be contested under but former world heavyweight champion Tyson confirmed to Fox Sports it would be an exhibition, although what exactly that constitutes remains unclear.

He said: “This is called an exhibition, but if you look up ‘exhibition’ you will not see any of the rules we will be fighting under. This is a fight.”

The clash has already caused plenty of controversy, largely due to the fact Tyson will be 58 come fight night, significantly older than his 27-year-old opponent.

Paul started out on YouTube before turning to boxing and he owns a 9-1 record.

Tyson says he knows what to expect but warned he intends to show plenty of his trademark ferocity.

He added: “I saw a YouTube of him at 16 doing weird dances. That’s not the guy I’m gonna be fighting.

“This guy is gonna come, he’s gonna try to hurt me, which I’m accustomed to, and he’s gonna be greatly mistaken.”

Tyson was one of the biggest names in world sport in the 1980s, earning a fearsome reputation for brutal knockouts on his way to holding the undisputed world title between 1987 and 1990.
