Kansas City Chiefs agree contract extensions with Reid, Donovan and Veach

The Kansas City Chiefs have tied head coach Andy Reid, president Mark Donovan and general manager Brett Veach down to new “long-term” contracts.

The Chiefs secured back-to-back championships at Super Bowl LVIII in February, beating the San Francisco 49ers 25-22 in overtime to retain their crown.

They have only missed the postseason once in their 11 campaigns under Reid, who joined the team in 2013 after spending 13 years in charge of the Philadelphia Eagles.

The Chiefs have appeared in each of the last six AFC Championship games, winning four and going on to triumph at the Super Bowl three times, with quarterback Patrick Mahomes being named Super Bowl MVP on each occasion.

On Monday, the franchise confirmed their leadership team will remain in place for several more years to come, though exact details of their extensions were not released.

Chairman Mark Hunt said in a statement: “Mark, Brett and Andy have achieved historic success together, and we are thrilled that they will continue in their roles for many years to come.

“Individually, Mark, Brett and Andy each represent the best in the National Football League at their respective positions, and together, they make up one of the finest leadership teams in all of professional sports.

“They have been tremendous leaders for this organization on and off the field, and we look forward to their continued success in the years ahead.”

Reid is one of just five head coaches to win three or more Super Bowls, with only Bill Belichick (six) and Chuck Noll (four) recording more victories. Those same two men are the only coaches to appear at more Super Bowls, with Reid having made it to five – four with the Chiefs and one with the Eagles.

“I’m incredibly grateful to Clark and the entire Hunt family for giving me the opportunity to lead this historic franchise,” Reid said.

“Over the last 11 years, Tammy and I have enjoyed calling Kansas City our home. The community has embraced us, we’ve watched our family grow, including having all 12 grandkids during our time here.

“On the field, there have been so many people that have contributed to our success and Super Bowls, and I’m grateful to the players, coaches and staff that have all invested their time into this process.

“Chiefs Kingdom is a special place and I’m blessed to have the opportunity to be here.”
