Travis Kelce pens two-year extension with Kansas City Chiefs

Travis Kelce has agreed a two-year contract extension with the Kansas City Chiefs, reportedly becoming the highest-paid tight end in the NFL.

Kelce had entered the final 12 months of the four-year, $57.25milllion deal he signed back in 2020, but his new two-year deal is reportedly worth $34.25 million with $17 million fully guaranteed for 2024.

Kelce has played a crucial role in the Chiefs reaching six straight AFC Championship games and winning three Super Bowls during that period – including going back-to-back in the last two.

Kelce had a game-high 93 receiving yards and nine catches from 10 targets as the Chiefs overcame the San Francisco 49ers in overtime to win Super Bowl LVIII in February.

He has been rewarded for his reliability by becoming the highest-paid tight end in the league for the first time in his career, which began with the Chiefs taking him 63rd overall in the 2013 draft.

In a video released by the team on Monday, Kelce said: “It feels good to be in K.C.

“I remember coming here 12 years ago, man. It’s an honour and a pleasure. I can’t wait to get after it these next two years, but I’ve felt no better than right now. I’m getting fired up for this year.”

Kansas City quarterback Patrick Mahomes was delighted to hear his favourite target will be sticking around, writing on X: “I told y’all I’ll never let him leave!! Congrats my guy!”

Kelce’s status has transcended football in the last 12 months, with his relationship with American pop icon Taylor Swift making him perhaps the most high-profile player in the NFL.

The 34-year-old has also seen the popularity of his ‘New Heights’ podcast, which he hosts alongside his older brother Jason Kelce, explode in recent months.

Jason Kelce – who faced his brother at Super Bowl LVII last year with the Philadelphia Eagles – announced his retirement last month and is set to move into television punditry.
