The final day of the BMW PGA Championship whittled down to a play-off showdown between Rory McIlroy, Thriston Lawrence, and Billy Horschel after ending the fourth round all with a score of -20.
Thriston Lawrence played a Bogey early on, dropping out of the title race early on, leaving McIlroy and Horschel to go head-to-head for the title. Eventually, Billy Horschel ended with an Eagle, pipping McIlroy to the overall top spot for the weekend, making it another heartbreaking moment to endure in this year’s season after losing out in the final rounds of the US Open earlier in the year.
McIlroy and Billy Horschel started the fourth round on Sunday joint second, trailing leader Matteo Manassero, who tied for fourth place at the end of the tournament, alongside Britain’s Matthew Baldwin and Aaron Rai, with -17.
