LeBron James: Lakers star to miss Jazz clash

LeBron James

LeBron James will rest up ahead of Sunday’s All-Star game in Indianapolis after confirming he will sit out the Los Angeles Lakers’ clash with the Utah Jazz tonight.

James starred in the Lakers’ 125-111 win over the Detroit Pistons on Tuesday, scoring 25 points, but will not take to the court for the final game before the NBA takes its mid-season break.

The 39-year-old has been dealing with an ankle problem but played a full part in a solid team display from the Lakers against Detroit as they improved their record to 29-26 for the season.

James said: “Offensively, we’re sharing the ball.

“Everybody’s been in a good rhythm. And then defensively, we’ve been on a string and if anything breaks down, the Defensive Player of the Year cleans it up for us. So, definitely, we’re playing some good ball.”

The ‘Defensive Player of the Year’ James referred to is Anthony Davis.

Davis has had another excellent season for the Lakers but is past the stage of being concerned by personal accolades.

He said: “I feel like I should have won it a couple times but didn’t, so, I mean, at this point, I’m just trying to win.

“Continue to have a presence on the defensive end, and if that seems to be in the plans for me to win it this year, then obviously it’ll be exciting for me to have one of those under my belt.”
