Jake Paul to fight Mike Tyson in July

Jake Paul

Jake Paul will take on former world heavyweight champion Mike Tyson on July 20 in what the former YouTuber described as “the biggest fight of the 21st Century”.

The bout, which pits 27-year-old Paul against Tyson, who will be 58 come fight night, will take place at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas and will be shown live on Netflix as part of their deal with Paul’s Most Valuable Promotions (MVP).

Tyson was one of the biggest names in world sport in the 1980s, earning a fearsome reputation for brutal knockouts on his way to holding the undisputed world title between 1987 and 1990.

Paul’s road from YouTuber to boxer started in 2020 when he fought on the undercard of Tyson’s exhibition fight with Roy Jones Jnr.

Paul said: “It’s crazy to think that in my second pro fight I went viral for knocking out Nate Robinson on Mike Tyson’s undercard.

“Now, less than four years later, I’m stepping up to face Tyson myself to see if I have what it takes to beat one of boxing’s most notorious fighters and biggest icons.

“Within just two and a half years of founding MVP, we’re about to produce the biggest fight in history, a fight in the biggest NFL stadium in the US, broadcast live, on the biggest streaming platform in the world – a testament to all we’ve accomplished in such a short amount of time.”

Tyson has been sharing videos of his sparring sessions on social media and appears in good shape. And although the age gap will cause significant debate, Tyson appears confident he can do damage to the younger man.

He said: “[Paul has] grown significantly as a boxer over the years, so it will be a lot of fun to see what the will and ambition of a ‘kid’ can do with the experience and aptitude of a GOAT.

“It’s a full-circle moment that will be beyond thrilling to watch, as I started him on his boxing journey on the undercard of my fight with Roy Jones, and now I plan to finish him.”
