NFL team the Philadelphia Eagles

Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver DeVonta Smith has agreed a three-year contract extension with the NFL outfit which is reportedly worth up to $75 million.

The first-round pick in 2021 has been consistently impressive, producing 240 receptions for 3,178 yards and 19 touchdowns across three seasons.

Speaking during the 2023 season, head coach Nick Sirianni called Smith “a pro in every sense of the word”. “He’s always prepared,” said Sirianni.

“DeVonta works extremely hard and earns everything he gets. He’s always up to the challenge. He loves to go out there and compete. He’s what you want in a football player.”

Smith had two years remaining on his previous five-year deal and joins Landon Dickerson, Jake Elliott and Jordan Mailata in signing recent contracts with Philadelphia until 2028.

Now 25, Louisiana-born Smith won the Heisman Trophy in 2020 and helped Alabama win two National Championships before joining the Eagles, where he is a team captain.

“DeVonta is an incredible person, an incredible player,” executive vice president and general manager Howie Roseman said in February. “He’s a homegrown, young guy. Without getting into specifics, those are guys you don’t really want to leave.”

DeVonta Smith salary, contract

The terms of Smith’s new deal were not disclosed but his fresh deal is worth $75m with $51m guaranteed, according to ESPN.

The outlet said the 10th overall draft when he joined the Eagles will receive a salary of around $16 million for the 2025 season.

Smith’s strong on and off-field relationship with fellow wide receiver AJ Brown has been evident during their time at the Eagles, who will open the 2024 season against the Green Bay Packers in Brazil on September 6.

“He is a great receiver, always prepared and he works so hard on his craft,” Brown said of Smith. “He does things that you see and you just go, ‘Did he just make that catch?’

“I admire the way he approaches the game and how he plays out there.”
