LeBron James, Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant and Joel Embiid will be part of Team USA’s 2024 Paris Olympics men’s basketball team, according to a report.

Managing director Grant Hill’s initial 11-man squad will also feature Anthony Davis, Devin Booker, Anthony Edwards, Jayson Tatum, Jrue Holiday, Bam Adebayo and Tyrese Haliburton, ESPN has cited sources as saying.

The outlet said Hill is keeping one slot open before a July training camp and exhibition games in Las Vegas.

The potential move puts Los Angeles Lakers talisman James on the brink of becoming his country’s oldest ever player at the age of 39, beating Reggie Miller’s record of 37.

James and Durant are the only USA players to have taken part in three editions of the Olympic Games alongside Carmelo Anthony.

Phoenix Suns forward Durant won gold in 2012, 2016 and 2020, while James took bronze in 2004 and gold in 2008 and 2012.

Team USA basketball: Olympics beckon

Team USA coach Steve Kerr already works with Curry in his role as head coach of the Golden State Warriors.

Curry, who will be an Olympic debutant if he appears, has won the NBA title four times and MVP twice under Kerr’s leadership.

Philadelphia 76ers center Embiid is yet to appear at the games and was the MVP in 2023, as well as being a seven-time NBA All-Star.

USA are the most successful team in the history of the competition and bidding for a fifth successive title, having won gold 16 times.

Argentina’s triumph in 2004 is the only occasion since 1988 when they have not been the champions.

The odds-on favourites to prevail in Paris are likely to be most closely challenged by Serbia, Canada, France and Germany, according to bookmakers.
